Ismael Vargas: Echoes of Mexico

October 15 – November 14, 2015
Vargas’s exquisite works are a play of shapes and edges, pure quantities precisely rendered with a highly refined painterly craft. He takes intimiately familiar pieces of the Mexican world and turns them into stories that can strike the viewer as elements of a profound human epic.

Vargas’ work has been included in numerous exhibitions throughout Mexico and the United States. Among a few are the Mexican Cultural Institute, Washington, D.C.; The Tamaulipas Contemporary Art Museum, Mexico; and the San Antonio Museum of Art, TX; His art can be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Latin American Art, Long Beach, CA; the Monterrey Museum of Contemporary Art, Mexico; and the Panama Museum of Contemporary Art, Panama.
