A recurring motif in Leiva’s work is barcas, or boats, representing a passage of the mind and body. The starkness of desaturation of this work against Leiva’s usual vibrancy causes a striking and necessary lull of the overarching color tonality. The vessel is elevated and unmoving. It has placed biomorphic passengers on a pedestal without purpose or intended journey. The two inclusions of color, the dark blue and gold, create a focal point, each curving to follow a golden spiral.
