Often drawing inspiration from his cinematic experiences, Jesse Amado's newest sculpture, BLOW UP, is inspired by the 1960s mystery/thriller film Blowup. The letters echo Robert Indiana's famous LOVE sculptures, while the use of International Klein Blue references Yves Klein. The phrase is composed using block letters in all caps with the "O" slanted sideways appearing as if it has blown the W to the bottom row. The letters are placed on a clear plexiglass base at a slight angle. The clean lines used to create the block letters and the smooth surface and sharp edges of the plexiglass juxtapose the offset arrangement and emphasize a duality between perfection and imperfection.
