The "Mujer y máscara" photo series was shot for an issue of Anita Brenner’s "Mexico This Month" magazine, which Horna contributed to from 1958-1965. Both this series and "Una noche en el sanatorio de muñecas" were created for the magazine but were never published. The mask in "Mujer y máscara" was made by English painter Leonora Carrington, who depicted mythical, animal-like figures frequently in her paintings as well.
