Martínez’s Serapes have shown the gradual process of change and improvisation of the idea and how it has evolved into an authentic creation. Repeatedly painting the same subject is eventually molded into the artist’s perspective. “In the art world, cranking out formulaic artworks is frowned upon. In my way, I’m doing just that because the formula is a requirement— I think of it as “process” art because this type of work requires a formula that must first be figured out proportionally and chromatically and then executed to get an expected result. However, the actual result can stray from the expectation and surprise.”
