"Spinning into Darkness" showcases a split depiction of Earth, tightly wrapped in barbed wire. In this work, Jiménez Underwood explores the complex human relationship with our planet, highlighting the environmental and ethical consequences of our pursuit of power. The barbed wire represents imprisonment and confinement as it constrains the earth. Created during her 2024 International Artist-in-Residence Program at Artpace in San Antonio, TX, curated by Beverly Adams, Jiménez Underwood worked with local printmaker Gary Nichols at Hare & Hound Press to create "Spinning into Darkness." According to Artpace San Antonio, Underwood’s work explores human resilience and the cyclical nature of destruction and rebirth.
