"Metamorphosis" depicts an audience of flowers as the Aztec earth deity Coatlicue undergoes a transformation, giving way to the Virgin of Guadalupe. Coatlicue, the Goddess of Earth, embodies the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. Through cultural icons and blooming flowers, Jiménez Underwood highlights human resilience and rebirth as a means of countering negative impacts on the earth. Created during her 2024 International Artist-in-Residence Program at Artpace in San Antonio, TX, curated by Beverly Adams, Jiménez Underwood worked with local printmaker Gary Nichols at Hare & Hound Press to create "Metamorphosis."
