“Instability and resolution, uncomfortable and beautiful” are some of the juxtapositions that Agricola Mojica explores in Alone for a Bit. Centered are two abstracted figures, which appear to transition between layers. A cool-toned figure in the foreground seems to be less abstracted than the warmer figure in the middle ground, suggesting a tension between closeness and distance. Layer upon layer of alternating cool and warm tones creates the ambiance of transient spaces. Although the figures share the same composition, they appear worlds apart, separated by the tension between reality and fantasy. The interconnected distortions and repetition of shapes draw the viewer into the imagery, contributing to the overall reflective mood of the paintings and, in the end, challenging the viewer to pause, think, and contemplate the work.
