“Protezione dai Pagliacci,” Italian for “Protection against Clowns,” is a glass statue of an outstretched hand reaching upward, with a heart resting in its palm. The Brothers modeled this after the “Mano Poderosa”, a significant symbol in Santeria. The title was inspired by a visit to Murano Island, near Venice, Italy, renowned worldwide for its glassmaking history. Clown figurines are among the most popular and enduring goods sold in the area. Fascinated by the permanence of these clown figures, the brothers created the hand as a protective gesture against the reach of the evil clown.
