In Transcendence: 13 Undocumented Birds, Jimenez Underwood positions vines of artificial flowers between long strips of black fabric. These flowers are woven throughout the composition with leather and metal barbed wire, both between and along the fabric strips. This piece, like the artist's 2021 work titled Broken: 13 Undocumented Birds, was created to “provoke discourse” about border disruptions to avian migratory patterns across the continent, as birds often violently collide with border walls, causing injury and even death. This work reflects Jimenez Underwood's environmental and socio-political concerns regarding the borderlands.
