“VDG Looking Backward” centers a silhouette of the Virgin of Guadalupe, referenced in the title as the acronym VDG. Drawing inspiration from Peruvian burial shrouds, “VDG Looking Backward” is woven with a single warp. In describing the intricate process, the artist notes, “I tapestried the borders and loom-wove the central portion – which is very difficult to do. I hand-dyed all the threads.” The piece features meticulous detail, including Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent, on the right border, alongside two small tapestried spiders. Additionally, the artist included the signature “C/S” in the upper-right corner, accompanied by the number “13,” which held sacred significance for indigenous communities.
