Consuelo Jimenez Underwood often creates rebozos that pay homage to nature, as seen and understood in her work, Strange Word on the Shore. Consuelo uses shifts in color, texture, and weaving density to create two distinct yet connected fields. Favoring differing shades of blue to neon yellow serving as sand, the word “CAUTION” appears through tightly woven horizontal bands. The meeting of these contrasting sections evokes a shoreline; this sense of transition echoes Jimenez Underwood’s broader interest in boundaries, land, and the spaces that exist between separation and connection.
