Trained as a painter, engraver, and sculptor, Mexican modern artist Federico Cantú (1907-1989) adopted an academic style that set him apart from other artists of the Mexican Art School. In 1945, he started working in the drypoint technique with renowned master engraver Carlos Alvarado Lang. "Tondo" was created in 1948.
