Victor Chaca was born in 1948 in Juchitan, Oaxaca. His work deals with the circus of life, both thematically and in pictorial terms. The artist has a preference of achieving a high level of texture on the canvas. He comes from a family of carpenters and "Chaca" in fact means carpenter in Zapotec. He likes to include lots of imagery from that profession: chairs and ladders played a very important role. Unlike Max Beckman who he admires, Chaca does not see the world as a tragedy of man's inhumanity to man. He sees life as a carnival of human craziness and as a merry-go-round. He believes that in life, sometimes you have to be a participant, and to keep things in perspective, occasionally a spectator.
