The "Mujer y máscara" photo series was shot for an issue of Anita Brenner’s "Mexico This Month" magazine, which Horna contributed to from 1958 to 1965. Both this series and "Una noche en el sanatorio de muñecas" were created for the magazine but were never published. The mask in "Mujer y máscara" was made by English painter Leonora Carrington, who frequently depicted mythical, animal-like figures in her paintings.
