The Water by Air series was born from Ramirez’s lifelong love of travel. As his sister states, “There were many trips to Port Aransas, Texas, where we spent the day at the beach. Aunt Lupe would load up the back of the station wagon with plenty of food, drinks for kids and adults, folding chairs, and sunscreen.” Commissioned by the San Antonio Water System (SAWS), the works were featured in the exhibition H20- Considering the Hydrosphere at UTSA’s School of Art (formerly the Southwest School of Art and Craft). Ramirez traveled for pleasure and as part of his artistic career for exhibitions. The Water by Air series are overhead shots of water as planes land, submerging viewers into a hopeful glimpse of travel. The titles of the works are for Los Angeles International Airport, Chicago O'Hare International Airport, and LaGuardia Airport.
