"You look up at the moon, and it starts to rain. The raindrops are elongated. They are long, and they look like barbed wire. It's raining barbed wire from the moon. I wove 'Raining Barbed Wire' in the form of a rebozo. Note: there is a silver line that appears every one inch in a typical Mexican rebozo format. I used light, shimmering silver threads from Japan, fine linen, and cotton. I strung it on an eight-harness floor loom. I started weaving at the bottom of the rebozo, where I used a lace pattern weave to reflect a rebozo-like fringe. The pattern was a plain weave – a basic one, two, one, two weave structure which is easy to weave but time-consuming. The difficult part was remembering to put a silver thread every inch. When completed, I attached the soft white leather barbed wire, couching it to the woven surface. I then lined it with fabric in the back." - Consuelo Jimenez Underwood
