"Veggie Cookout is a study of shape, color, and texture that centers around weekend grilling sessions. I had been grilling Japanese eggplants all summer and decided to make a drawing of them one day, which was translated into a collage and then into the finished painting. The shapes of the eggplants are so lovely and in the painting they end up collapsing into each other as the glowing red color undulates into them.
Like many of my works there is a representational jumping off point that gets quickly abandoned in favor of the base shapes and colors that can better communicate how a moment feels."- Carlos Rosales-Silva 2021
