'The Kennedy's' is a text-based painting; similar to others in this series, Diaz takes a satirical tone to add political commentary. In this artwork, Diaz references President Kennedy's stop in San Antonio the day before his assassination in Dallas. Kennedy was very popular among minority communities, and Diaz uses this work to pay homage to his presidency.
"This piece is the imagery of what actually occurred on his stop on the day he stopped in San Antonio, where we are from. He went from San Antonio to Dallas, where he was shot. So if you saw this painting in a museum or gallery, and it was a gallery about the 1960’s, you might just think this painting is just signage. But if you hung it in a contemporary art gallery, it functions as contemporary art.:
