This text-based artwork reflects on the ongoing crisis at the border between South Texas and Mexico, two places with which Diaz has cultural and personal roots. He uses the motif of a cage as a stark reminder of the suffering immigrant families are, and have been, enduring at the border.
"There’s nothing really to figure out in this painting…it is what it is. During the Trump administration and he Zero-Tolerance Policy, children and their families were separated and kids were put into cages. There’s no poetry there, there’s nothing to figure out." -Alejandro Diaz
