Raised in San Antonio, Texas, New York-based artist Diaz fuses conceptual with campy in a unique stylistic approach influenced by his Mexican heritage and Texan roots. Diaz creates refreshing and familiar pieces by reworking familiar references from advertising, popular culture, and art history. The Series of Great Prints (2019-2020) provides a relevant and humorous twist on the notorious political slogan “Make America Great Again.” This text-based print uses the cereal brand Frosted Flakes logo, demonstrating Diaz's recurrent use of everyday materials, humor-infused politics, and ongoing involvement with art as entertainment, activism, public intervention, and free enterprise. Diaz's artwork is often tinged with humor, often poking fun at the “seriousness” of artmaking, other times delivering biting socio-political commentary synthesized with light-hearted wit.
