'Together But Separate' is a brightly colored and engaging piece from Diaz's text-based series. In these paintings, Diaz adopts a humorous and literal approach to the idea of a diptych. However, the title adds a metaphorical layer to the word itself.
"The word diptych has a religious meaning, describing two panels that form to make one work. These two panels also form one work. So that speaks to the two sides of where I was coming from. You see it’s just a yellow panel with words on it, so how could you get emotion out of it? But for me, it also began to be about relationships."
