Bato con Sunglasses captures an enigmatic figure who is the artist’s teenage vision of the ultra-cool and representative of Martinez’s Pachuco Series. He draws inspiration from real individuals while incorporating artistic liberties to create a familiar figure. Martinez explores human attitudes and emotions within an abstract landscape, incorporating elements of narrative and rumination with an earthy palette and chiaroscuro.
