"I lived in Lahore, Pakistan, on a Fulbright in 2000. There was a chaotic yet functioning system that I, as an American, had to adjust to. I was driven around by a personal driver and learned that they had a special rhythm of luck/belief that they would not be hit. I learned to trust my instincts, and my streetwise nature from my days in Chicago's south side came in handy."
