"Paredes sources her fabrics for her photo performances from textile markets all over the world. For her ongoing "Celestial" series, she likewise looks to cultural production across time and space, using images and cosmic frameworks from Ancient Egyptian, Indian, Iranian, and Incan archival material. From these historical documents, Paredes engages in a kind of mythological remixing,
collaging various planetary bodies and zoomorphic constellations. She layers embroidery and crystals onto the printed linen surface as well as her own smattering of celestial bodies in acrylic paint, often incorporating images of extinct flora or the names of assassinated environmentalist advocates, perhaps imagining their afterlives among the stars." - art historian Emily Alesandrini.
