Another important body of work is his Adobe series. "In 1979, Frank Romero married artist Nancy Wyle, and soon after, they purchased a small plot of land in Arroyo Seco near Taos, New Mexico, a region from which his family descended. The Romero's were part of a group of California-based artists that would migrate to this enclave for part of the year, including Larry Bell, Ken Price, and old family friends Lee Mullican and Luchita Hurtado. They would eventually construct a traditional adobe home on the property with the help of members of the Taos Pueblo. It is at this time Romero’s interest in the Southwest would take center stage in his work, influenced by the culture and friendships that then occupied his family’s time. While witnessing and helping build his family’s home, Romero became fascinated by the process of making adobe bricks. In the mid-1990s, he would begin his Adobe Series, inspired by these memories and the antique adobe molds he collected over time. Based upon the original process of creating bricks, Romero’s earthen wall reliefs are presented in similar molds, serving as a frame for the various soil varieties.” - Rafael Barrientos Martínez
