A handmade vase holds a handful of blooms, steady against a restless, shifting backdrop. As the artist made delicate line markings on the vase, she wondered: are we destined to be who we are from the start, the lines already etched in us like the wrinkles in our palms? Or can we outgrow them, soften them, let them change shape? Perhaps we carry both truths — the weight of what we’ve always been and the possibility of becoming something else.
