Rooted in Rebellion: Ricky Armendariz's "Texas Tree of Life" at the Alamo's Texas Cavaliers Education Center

"The Texas Cavaliers Education Center opened its doors on April 30, 2026, after multiple years of construction on the Alamo grounds. The institution is located behind the iconic Alamo Church and is the second of three new buildings to open at the historic site as outlined in the Alamo Plan. Years prior to opening the center, Richard “Ricky” Armendariz created a drawing that captured the legacy of the Alamo and San Antonio at large. This drawing, initially vertical in orientation, was adjusted to create the design for the Texas Tree of Life: A Tribute to the Independent Spirit of San Antonio, a horizontal work that is now housed at the Texas Cavaliers Education Center." - Christopher Karr
