Art at the Alamo
Ricky Armendariz, July 17, 2026

Join renowned San Antonio artist Ricky Armendariz for an exclusive evening showcasing his masterpiece, Texas Tree of Life: A Tribute to the Independent Spirit of San Antonio, the largest composition he has ever undertaken, on display now in the all-new Texas Cavaliers Education Center at the Alamo.

This remarkable oil-on-carved birch plywood mural centers on a majestic live oak whose sweeping branches unite the people, symbols, flags, and stories that have shaped 300 years of Alamo history. The tree's roots honor San Antonio's Native American heritage, the lower branches reflect the city's Spanish mission era, and the upper canopy features figures and moments from the Texas Revolution, including the siege and Battle of the Alamo.

Known for his distinctive carved paintings and prints, Armendariz blends visual storytelling with imagery inspired by the animals, plants, and cultural traditions of both Mexico and the United States. During this special evening, guests will hear firsthand about his creative process, the inspiration behind Texas Tree of Life that took well over a year to paint and carve, and the powerful stories throughout the artwork, followed by an opportunity for Q&A.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to connect with one of San Antonio's celebrated artists, discover the stories behind one of the Alamo's newest artistic treasures, and enjoy an unforgettable evening of art, history, and conversation.
