Mingling the codes of aesthetics, advertising, and eroticism, Chuk Ramirez’ work defies neat classification. It resembles post-pop or conceptual art although his large scale digital prints – the works for which he is best known – often look more like commercial product photography than fine art. An admirably transgressive achievement in an era with an ever-widening definition of art, Ramirez’ work can provoke doubt about its status as art altogether.
