From stereotypes of Mexican identity to contemporary socio-economic and art world commentary, Alejandro Diaz’s text-based works use language as a tool for social critique and resistance. Diaz’s art relies on text’s ability to evoke mental images and questions the boundaries between high and low art. Drawing on various cultural allusions, Diaz reflects on complex social and political relationships in his multimedia work, including "From the Series of Great Prints" (2019-2020), a series of archival color prints on German etching paper. With bright colors and obscured fonts, From the Series of Great Prints: Jerry Garcia (2019-2020) references the late Grateful Dead singer using a well-known political slogan, humorously highlighting the contrast between the values of Jerry Garcia and Donald Trump.
