Through her poetic and documentary style, Iturbide creates a visual narrative that reflects on the complexity of life on the border and the coexistence of cultural and personal elements. The emblem on the car’s hood is the Firebird, the iconic logo of the Pontiac Trans Am—widely popular in the 1970s and 1980s. The flaming bird symbolizes power, freedom, and aspiration, while subtly echoing Mexico’s national eagle. The juxtaposition of these emblems reflects a negotiation of identity between American consumer culture and Mexican heritage.
