Iturbide's lively photograph provides a rare and humorous glimpse into the personality of her late friend, the legendary Mexican artist Francisco Toledo, as he playfully interacts with his Xolo (hairless dog). "Francisco is a famous painter and a good friend of mine," Iturbide explains, "We often work together, and we play around while taking photographs.”
The image shows a cheerful Toledo, laughing as his energetic Xolo leaps over his head. Since the late 1970s, Iturbide's work has served as a visual history of Mexico, documenting the diversity and daily lives of its people, always emphasizing their dignity.
