Kati Horna, even while working on commercial photographs for publications such as the popular Mexican magazine Mujeres (beginning in 1958), found ways to transcend the medium's potentially restrictive limits. She frequently employed close-ups and props to introduce elements of mystery, exaggeration, and unexpected contrasts into her work. Horna's use of mirrors extended the capacity of her photographs, allowing her to depict the deeper, often irrational facets of the human psyche, such as hidden desires, fears, and obsessions. Actress Beatriz Sheridan was a frequent subject for Horna, including in the unpublished photo series S.nob, titled “Historia de un Vampiro: Sucedió en Coyoacán en 1962.”
