Shipton's artistic practice is rooted in the observation of everyday situations and consideration of the linguistic conditionality and narrative that it's created through text. This conceptual starting point culminates in direct, accessible but enigmatic works, prompting the viewer to voice fundamental questions. For example, "Which Way to Go" is a series of prints based on photos, in which exit signs marked with the names of small Texan towns show the relevant exits from the highway. In this context, viewers of the artwork could have completely different reflections all based on their own experiences and background.
La Gloria is a town located at the Rio Grande Valley.
