Nate Cassie & Constance Lowe: Minding the Gaps

June 5 - July 13, 2019 San Antonio

Working within the realm of sculpture, Nate Cassie and Constance Lowe come together in an exhibition that pairs works in soft materials with arrangements of ceramic pieces.  Lowe’s sewn felt pieces based on inkblots and altered familiar objects occupy a perceptual space between abstraction and representation and an imaginative space that contrasts familiarity with permutation. Similarly, Cassie’s thematic practice centers on the gaps that distance surface from volume, skin, and structure, formal and intuitive systems. By exploring the thresholds of perception and the “spaces in between” what we see, intuit, and imagine, both artists invite multi-dimensional encounters with material and form.

Constance Lowe was selected for the Artpace International Artist in Residence Program in 1998 and received a San Antonio Artist Foundation award in 2007. Exhibitions of her work include the Southwest School of Art, San Antonio, TX; University of Texas at San Antonio; Artpace, San Antonio, TX; Phoenix Art Museum, AZ; Trinity College, Hartford, CT; Forum for Contemporary Art, St. Louis, MO; and Monash University, Caulfield, Australia.
