On her use of selfies in paintings and works on paper the artist states, "The selfies are the least serious. I wanted to include myself in the work in a way that was banal and lets me have a sense of humor. I can refer to the objectification of women’s bodies both historically and in current culture, as well as my own experiences in terms of art historical positioning, gendered familial roles, pleasure and sensuality, and its complications with the correlation that it carries." - Gaby Collins-Fernandez
