In regards to the title of the exhibition "Applied Pressure" the artist states, "There is a very blurred line between violence, pleasure, intimacy and threats. These elements are present socially and wrapped up in intimate dynamics. "Applied Pressure" is something that connects to how an image comes into itself and how each work becomes its own thing. Each work exists beyond its own iteration. I am questioning what it means to make a painting and how can I engage the expectation that paintings are singular and unique but my experiences are quite iterative. For example the shape of the feeling of heartbreak or anger might feel the same, but it’s content has shifted." - Gaby Collins-Fernandez
