"I bought a compass because it’s a natural drawing tool that I had never used in my studio before. I started making drawings and somehow through my daily drawing practice I reverse engineered a Spanish tile design. From there I started making these really intense patterns with the compass as a guide. It then becomes more about the colors and I think 'how many colors can I jam into this painting and have it not look out of control?' It’s always about finding that balance." - Carlos Rosales-Silva
