Frank Romero’s Serape de Madera series references the architecture and textiles of the American Southwest that the artist has collected over the years. Inspired by the geometric diamonds, lozenges, and zig-zags of Navajo blankets and Mexican serapes, Romero reimagines these traditional textiles in the medium of wood, bridging two distinct yet interconnected cultures. Electric oranges, greens, and pinks adorn the geometry of Serape de Madera con Azul, a work made in a series with, among others, Serape de Madera con Rojo.
