In Cristina en su casa, Cristina reclines nude against a wall, surrounded by sarapes, a crucifix, and an assortment of everyday objects. Her body, neither posed nor idealized, resists eroticization, presenting instead a raw, immediate presence in which vulnerability becomes a subtle act of defiance. The domestic environment collapses the boundaries between the sacred and the profane, suggesting that intimacy, faith, and personal identity coexist within the same space. Cristina’s gaze remains elusive, guarding an indefinable meaning and leaving the viewer suspended between reverence and uncertainty. In a 2023 interview with the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Iturbide describes her photography as a “ritual” and an expression of wonder toward the life she observes, consistently pursuing the authentic over the superficial.
