In Cholo Harpys, White Fence, East LA, Iturbide captures the gang's hand signals and common culture. She pictures a friend from one of her main subjects of the project, who forms a W and F with his hands and wears a black bandana with WF printed in bold white letters. In the hand that forms the F is a perfectly held cigarette, and strapped to his waistband is a fixed-blade knife, a subtle nod to the power and violence that silently followed the reputation of the gang.
