This work takes its title from Lesley Gore’s 1963 hit, You Don’t Own Me. The declarative song has since become a definitive feminist anthem, widely embraced in pop culture. In this piece, Datchuk uses a waterjet cutter to liberate geisha and empress figures from porcelain plates, releasing them into a protest scene. The artist frequently explores the fetishization, sexualization, and commodification of the female body. In You Don't Own Me, these women are freed from restrictive, fetishized roles and reimagined as symbols of resistance and empowerment.
